Drabble: societal advancements (Parks & Rec/Better Off Ted, Ann/Veronica, PG)

societal advancements
Ann/Veronica, PG. Hermes for femslash100. 250 words. Warning for general tackiness in dealing with obesity.

Veronica doesn’t normally come on these Veridian Dynamics delegations (she’s told Ann so three times so far) but considering the state of this “quaint little town”, she really couldn’t refuse. After all, who better to benefit from the advancements in medicine and technology than the worst amongst us. The most destitute, the most in need.

Ann can’t decide if she takes offense or generally agrees, but she trails behind Veronica and her team of scientists touring Pawnee on the look out for “target areas” (which mostly consists of a leisurely walk down Main Street and ends at a conference room in City Hall).

“You’re part of whatever health initiative this town has,” Veronica says, turning to Ann briefly, indicating that she’d better catch up, “and obviously aren’t affected by the horrific obesity and ugliness.” She shakes her head, shuddering. “What’s your secret, how do you do it?”

The scientists all stop short, turning to look at her. Ann feels — to say the least — a little put on the spot. “Well, I’m a nurse, so I, well I guess I’m aware of what an endless diet of Sweetums can do to a system.”

“You hear that?” Veronica points at Ann, points at her troupe of white-coated workers, “Awareness. That’s what we’ve got to do for this town. That, and a discounted (but probably not FDA approved) weight-loss drug.”

Ann’s confusion must show on her face, because Veronica pats her shoulder. “We’ll come through for Pawnee. Veridian Dynamics always does.”
