“Hear my womanly roar,” Lauren concluded, giving nothing less than her best shout, filling the silence up and then emptying it again.
“Don’t you think it’s a little silly?” Cora asks, shifting in her seat. Her eyes are bright blue, looking up at Lauren.
Lauren shrugs. “It wasn’t silly when I was a kid. I’m pretty sure Ms. Knope and the Goddesses, I don’t know, made me who I am today.” And you’re in love with me, with the woman I am now, she thinks, touches a wayward tendril of Cora’s hair.
“I guess I’m just a little jealous,” Cora says finally, leaning against Lauren’s hand, “that you can just yell like that and not be embarrassed or self-conscious, or.” She quiets again for a moment. “I’ll have to thank Ms. Knope.”
